Howard Browne (1908–1999) wrote science fiction and hard-boiled detective fiction for the pulps, edited Amazing Stories and Fantastic in the 1950s (raising their production values), and created the sword-and-sorcery hero Tharn. He then had a successful career as a television and film screenwriter. A versatile professional across the pulp, editorial and screen worlds.
