Henry S. Whitehead (1882–1932) was an Episcopal clergyman who spent years in the Virgin Islands and drew on Caribbean folklore for atmospheric weird tales like ‘Jumbee’ and ‘Passing of a God’, published in Weird Tales. A friend and correspondent of Lovecraft, he brought an unusual authenticity of setting to the classic pulp horror story.
