F. Anstey (1856–1934), pen name of Thomas Anstey Guthrie, was a master of comic fantasy, above all Vice Versa (1882), in which a father and son magically swap bodies (the ancestor of every body-swap comedy since), and The Brass Bottle, in which a released genie causes chaos. A hugely popular Punch humorist, his light fantastic touch shaped the whole genre of comic magical mishap.
