Edwin Lester Arnold

Edwin Lester Arnold (1857–1935) wrote Lieut. Gullivar Jones: His Vacation (1905), in which a naval officer is carried to Mars by a magic carpet and has sword-and-planet adventures strikingly similar to those Edgar Rice Burroughs would make famous a few years later. He also wrote the reincarnation romance The Wonderful Adventures of Phra the Phoenician. A notable pre-Burroughs planetary romancer.
