Richard Ganthony (1857–1924) wrote the popular stage fantasy A Message from Mars (1899), in which a Martian is sent to reform a selfish man, a Christmas-Carol-like moral fantasy that became an early British science-fiction film. A characteristic piece of turn-of-the-century popular fantasy.
