Reginald Bretnor (1911–1992) was a thoughtful essayist on the nature of science fiction (editing the influential symposium Modern Science Fiction) as well as a fiction writer, most famously the ‘Ferdinand Feghoot’ short-shorts, each ending in an elaborate pun, which became a beloved genre institution. A wry, learned figure of the field.
