Joseph Samachson (1906–1980) earned a Yale PhD in chemistry at twenty-three and led a career in medical research, all while writing science fiction under the name William Morrison. He contributed many stories to the pulps and digests from the late 1930s, and, remarkably, also scripted comics for DC in the 1940s, including Batman stories. His is a striking example of the scientist-author the genre often attracted.
