Arnold Bennett (1867–1931), celebrated for realist novels of the Potteries like The Old Wives’ Tale, also wrote lighter fantastic and speculative fiction, including The Ghost, a supernatural romance, and the comic fantasy The Glimpse. A consummate professional man of letters, his occasional excursions into the fantastic are a minor but real part of his enormous output.
