John Uri Lloyd (1849–1936) was a distinguished pharmacist and botanist whose novel Etidorhpa (1895), ‘Aphrodite’ reversed, sends its narrator on a visionary journey into a hollow earth full of scientific and mystical revelation. Lavishly illustrated and deeply odd, it became a cult classic of subterranean and esoteric science fiction.
