Andrew Lang (1844–1912) was a Scottish poet, critic and anthropologist whose great achievement for imaginative literature was the series of ‘Fairy Books’, the Blue, Red, Green and other coloured volumes, that gathered folk and fairy tales from across the world into the definitive children’s collections of their age. A serious scholar of myth and folklore, he did more than almost anyone to keep the wonder-tale alive.
