Grant Allen (1848–1899) was a Canadian-British science writer and novelist who applied evolutionary ideas to fiction, from the scandalous ‘New Woman’ novel The Woman Who Did to speculative and weird tales like ‘The Thames Valley Catastrophe’, in which a volcanic eruption devastates England. A busy popularizer of Darwin, he brought scientific thinking into popular imaginative fiction.
