G. E. Farrow (1862–1919) wrote more than thirty children’s books of nonsense fantasy in the tradition of Alice, above all the ‘Wallypug’ series, whose absurd little monarch, interplanetary voyages and gentle satire delighted young readers (Farrow, like L. Frank Baum, corresponded with his fans and let them steer the tales). He himself, it was said, ‘softly and suddenly vanished away’ into obscurity.
