His Tales of the Wonder Club (1899–1900) frame a gentlemen’s club sharing supernatural, weird and gothic stories in a manner often compared to Sheridan Le Fanu, and he wrote further weird fiction such as The Wizard’s Mantle. A cultivated late-Victorian fantasist, only identified in modern times.
