Jean Lorrain (1855–1906) was a flamboyant figure of the French Decadence whose fiction, above all Monsieur de Phocas and his mask- and drug-haunted short stories, pushed the fantastic toward hallucination, perversity and dread. A vivid, unsettling voice of fin-de-siècle weird literature.
