Guy Boothby (1867–1905) was a hugely popular Australian-British author whose ‘Dr. Nikola’ novels feature a charismatic occult mastermind pursuing the secret of immortality across exotic locales, a key early ‘diabolical genius’ figure. His fast-moving blend of mystery, the occult and adventure made him a best-seller of the fin de siècle.
