J. J. Grandville (1803–1847) was a brilliant French illustrator and caricaturist whose Un Autre Monde (Another World, 1844) is a phantasmagoric tour of bizarre planets, cosmic journeys and dream-logic transformations, startlingly modern surreal and proto-science-fictional imagery. His anthropomorphic animals and impossible visions influenced Surrealism and the whole imagery of the fantastic.
