Dinah Maria Mulock Craik (1826–1887) was a widely read Victorian novelist (John Halifax, Gentleman) who also wrote enduring children’s fantasy, above all The Little Lame Prince and His Travelling Cloak, in which a disabled boy explores the world by magic cloak. Her gentle, moral imaginative tales are a warm part of the Victorian fairy-story tradition.
