Viktor Rydberg (1828–1895) was one of Sweden’s most important nineteenth-century writers, poet, scholar and novelist, whose Gothic and fantastic works, including the vampire-tinged Singoalla and supernatural tales, and his studies of Germanic myth, place him among the notable Scandinavian ancestors of the fantastic.
