H. P. Lovecraft's 1927 story was his own personal favorite. Eerie, restrained, profoundly unsettling. Read it for one of the finest of all weird tales, a slow, creeping cosmic horror utterly unlike any monster, an alien contamination beyond human comprehension, told with a bleak beauty that Lovecraft never surpassed.
