The Salem horror by Henry Kuttner
When Carson first hears the sounds in his cellar, he blames the rats, until the Polish mill-workers whisper of Abigail Prinn, the diabolical witch who once lived in his ancient Salem house.
Henry Kuttner's 1937 Weird Tales story is a chilling Lovecraftian horror tale. Atmospheric, dread-soaked, superbly told. Read it for a classic of the Cthulhu Mythos, a writer in a cursed Salem house rousing an ancient witch's evil, complete with a walled crypt and a monstrous horned god waiting in the dark.
