The Little House in the Fairy Wood by Ethel Cook Eliot
One morning like any other, rough-handed Mrs. Freg shakes lazy-bones Eric awake, but this is to be the beginning of all things new for him, and of magic in a mist.
Ethel Cook Eliot's 1918 book is a lovely, lyrical fantasy for children. Dreamlike, tender, imaginative. Read it for a gentle wonder-tale of a lonely boy drawn into an enchanted wood, its bright house, its tree-mother, and a beautiful wicked witch, in prose as soft and magical as the mist that opens it.
