Stranger From Space by Hannes Bok
Twilight on Venus, the sky roofed by perpetual dust-clouds, and in a clay hut Koroby stares defiantly at her laughing bridesmaids, she is to be married tonight, and she doesn't care.
Hannes Bok's 1943 story is a lyrical, atmospheric first-contact and social-SF tale set on a jungle Venus. Vivid, poetic golden-age SF (Bok was also a celebrated illustrator). Read it for a beautifully imagined story where a defiant Venusian bride's fate becomes entangled with a stranger fallen from space.
